We are pleased to inform you that MEDSPORTPRESS Publishing Agency, a publisher of recognized scientific periodicals for over two decades (https://medsport.pl/en/), is launching a new professional journal, entitled “Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Science”.

The expression “complementary and alternative medicine” (also called “unconventional medicine”) covers a variety of medical practices and therapeutic methods that have been increasingly used in both developing and developed countries, in comprehensive therapies of various diseases – to complement and support standard, recognized, and valid medical procedures which are scientifically and clinically grounded.

The World Health Organization has officially adopted the term Traditional Medicine/Complementary and Alternative Medicine (TM/CAM), in which the TM refers to the knowledge, skills and practices based on the theories, beliefs and experiences used in major national systems of traditional medicine (Chinese, Indian, Native American, etc.), and the CAM refers to a broad set of health care practices that are not part of a country's own tradition and are not integrated into the dominant health care system, but complement or (seldom) replace official medical treatment. WHO has also formulated a definition of TM/CAM which includes diverse treatment practices and approaches involving herbal remedies and treatments, or medicines derived from animal and/or mineral sources, mind-body therapies, manipulative and body-based practices, energy therapies, physical exercise, etc. These methods are used in the maintenance of health and well-being, and in the prevention, diagnosis, improvement or treatment of physical and mental illness.

The primary goal of the periodical is to present the knowledge in complementary and alternative medicine in accordance with the principles of evidence-based medicine (EBM), as well as to popularize it in the academic and medical world. The journal’s guiding idea and essential role will be to publish the outcomes of original scientific and clinical investigations concerning selected phenomena and theories, and to present their influence on the living organism and possibilities for applying them in the treatment of specific disorders and injuries – provided that each method used in the therapy has been scientifically verified.

The periodical will be focused on the holistic approach to human health (diagnosis, prevention and therapy) using both the latest achievements of conventional or academic medicine, and areas such as the natural sciences and humanities, psychology and pedagogy, dietetics, physical culture and other disciplines, including exact sciences (chemistry, physics, computer science, etc.). These subjects will be also closely linked with an important field of contemporary science – research on innovations in medicine.

"Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Science".

Medycyna komplementarna i alternatywna (nazywana także medycyną niekonwencjonalną) obejmuje zagadnienia medyczne i metody terapii, które coraz częściej wykorzystywane są w kompleksowym leczeniu wielu chorób – jako uzupełnienie i wsparcie standardowych, uznanych i obowiązujących sposobów postępowania leczniczego mających uzasadnienie naukowe i kliniczne.

Światowa Organizacja Zdrowia (WHO) przyjęła jako obowiązującą nazwę Traditional Medicine/ Complementary and Alternative Medicine (w skrócie TM/CAM), gdzie pierwszy człon TM odnosi się do wielkich, historycznych medycyn narodowych (chińskiej, hinduskiej, indiańskiej i in.), a drugi (CAM) dotyczy stosowania pozaakademickich praktyk medycznych w krajach rozwiniętych, gdzie uzupełniają one lub, rzadko, zastępują oficjalne leczenie akademickie.

Zaplanowana tematyka zostanie ściśle powiązane z ważnym obszarem współczesnej nauki i medycyny, w ramach którego prezentowane będą prace naukowe obejmujące zagadnienia innowacyjności w medycynie.
